Day 3 - Dec. 2nd

After a long and arduous travel day from LA we finally arrived in Zihua last night albeit about and hour and a half late only to find a huge lineup in the airport - so you collect your bags, put them thru xray (again), push the button and hope to get a green light - I got red so they search all of our bags again - only in Mexico.  Finally we have escaped the airport and we are on route to Zihua.

The scenery from the airport is fairly typical of this part of the world.  Lots of palm trees and typical Mexican family dwellings.

Once we arrive to our home away from home at Arecas suites (in the dark mind you) we feel transported to the Garden of Eden - at least that was our impression because we can see very little with the lack of light.  We were delighted to wake up and find that our first impressions were right on.  The grounds here are beautiful and well maintained, the owners are wonderful and we pretty much have the place to ourselves which means that we also have the pool to ourselves.  There is one other couple here but they leave on Saturday and they tend to spend most of the day at the beach - nice people and we'll be sorry to see them go.

We found our way to the major grocery store and stocked up on all the little necessities of life - wine, vodka, beer, cheese, crackers, etc.

Our unit has the bare minimum in the way of a kitchen so we will have our fruit and yogurt breakfasts in then eat dinners out and there are many restaurants to choose from.

So for our first official day here it was off to the beach to see how far we could walk - we ca go a good distance but there is a rock outcropping that in order to get over a good pair of shoes would be required.  We found a steep public road (San Francisco steep) and got on to a major road which we walked until we could find another way down to the beach.  Walked all the way into Zihua centro along the beachside boardwalk.  It's about 86 or 87 degrees so time to stop for a cerveza.

The area is quite like I remember from about 15 or so years ago but will do some more exploring in the days to come.

It's now happy hour (hora felize) so time to have a cocktail.  More in the next day or two.
